WHEN: February 9, 2008 

 


WHERE: White Tank Mountain Regional Park Sonoran Loop Competitive Track, Waddell, AZ.  Taking I-10 westbound of Phoenix, exit at Cotton Lane/303 (exit #124).  Go North on Cotton Lane or 303 to Olive where you take a left (west) which takes you into the Park.  The Competitive Track is at the end of the park road. There is a $6 entry fee for each vehicle.

       Please note that reduced cost for annual NORBA license holders is taken off after your NORBA

       license number has been entered.

        *Registration closes at midnight (Mountain time) on the Wednesday before the race.

 

    • Mail in flyer available at bike shops in  Arizona  

        *Print, fill in, mail in general flyer and mail to address on flyer

        *Mail in registration form with check made payable to MBAA.

COST: NORBA has now mandated (as part of sanctioning) that non NORBA license holders MUST pay at least $5.00 more than NORBA license holders.  MBAA regrets this but must adhere to the NORBA mandate. Thus, the following prices:

    Nova Youth Cycling Foundation Members  . . . $10

 

    With current NORBA license:

        Adults 19 and over        . . . $35

        Juniors 18 and under     . . . $30

        Juniors 12 and under     . . . $15

 

    Without current NORBA license:

        Adults 19 and over        . . . $40

        Juniors 18 and under     . . . $35

        Juniors 12 and under     . . . $20

 

    All entries received after  Wed., February 6, 2008, same as race day:  . . . $50.00

 

USA Cycling Mountain Bike (NORBA) license required for experts, semi-pros and pros only. Can purchase license at race site (NORBA licenses can be purchased with a credit card)

 


COURSE:  Long Loop -- Perimeter loop and technical loop (6.40 miles) ;  Youth/junior loop (@ 2.5  miles).  Fast/fun.    Please note that the Youth/junior loop will be marked in Orange.  Maps are available at the trailhead and at the visitors center in the Park.

  

Race will be run in clockwise direction (the way it has always been - will not be reversed -- why?  MBAA does not have the Park's permission to run the race in any way other than it has been in the past)

 

**MBAA reserves the right to modify the race course and/or lap structure due to circumstances beyond its control.

 

Reminder:  Glass is prohibited in County Parks.

 

Your help is needed to keep the venue clean.  When "feeding" on the course, plesae put the packet/paper container in your pocket, rather than throwing it out on the course

RACE DAY INFO:

• Race Day check in/late registration starts at 6:30 a.m.

• Race Day registration available – cost $50.00 (no exceptions)  BE AWARE THAT RACE DAY

  REGISTRATION CLOSES ONE HOUR BEFORE YOUR RACE TIME.  This means if you have a

  race start time of 8:30 am, the latest you can register will be 7:30 am.

• Racing starts at 8:30 a.m.

• Make the check-in process go smoother:

        *Arrive with time to spare

        *Get Release form and sign it before getting in line

        *Be prepared to show your NORBA license and picture ID and/or College ID for collegiate riders

        *Be prepared to repeat your racing age and category

• MBAA members with permanent plates need to bring/use that permanent plate throughout the series.

• NOVA Youth  Cycling Members need to bring/use their plates throughout the series.

• Non MBAA members will be given a racing plate 

• You will also be given a timing chip which needs to be returned after your race.

 


This race is part of the NOVA Youth Foundation High School Series.

The Shimano Youth Racing series  will be incorporated into the 2008 series.  This is open to all juniors 12 and under.  The course for this will be in an open area with very short distances.  All participants will be awarded prizes.  Everyone is a winner.  This “race” is not timed, and there are no points or official standings.   This is an opportunity for young juniors to have fun and compete .  No charge.  Must register on race day about 12:30 pm at registration table. "Race" about 1 pm.  “Racers” must wear helmets.

Pro/semi pro --  Cash*
Awards will be presented after results for each group are official.
Raffle prizes:  Free* to all entrants.     *Must be present to receive

No Marathan category for the Whie Tanks race.

 

Junior Girls 12 and Under:  2  laps of Youth/Junior Loop

Junior boys 0-10:  1 lap of Youth/Junior Loop

Junior boys 11-12:  2 laps of Youth/Junior Loop

Junior girls 13-14:  3 laps of Youth/Junior Loop

Beginners (men and women), including junior boys 13 and up and junior girls 15 and up:  2 Long

Masters 60+:  2 Long

Rock Crushers:  2 Long

Sport Men, including Junior Sport:  3 Long

Collegiate Men and Women:  3 Long

Single Speed Novice:  3 Long

Sport Women, including Junior Sport:  3 Long

Expert men, including Junior Expert:  4 Long

Expert Women:  4 Long

Single Speed Advanced:  4 Long

Pro Men: 5 Long

Pro Women:  4 Long

 

Note:  Any request for a chance in the lap count must be made before staging.  Bring the subject up to registration personnel before staging

 


GENERAL START TIMES:  

 

8:35 – all women - except combined groups

8:35 – junior males 12 and under

10:15 –  Beginner loops—Beginner Men, Rock Crushers, Masters 60+, Junior men 13 and older

12:00: Pro/semi-pro Men, Expert loops—All expert Men (including JrX) Single Speed Advanced, All Sport Loops—Single Speed Novice, Collegiate, All sport men (including Jr Sport)

 


OTHER THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW:

  • In order to receive a goodie bag, registration must be received by February 2, 2008 

  • The goodie bag item for the White Tanks Race will be a T-shirt.

  • All racers must complete a release form available at Registration/check in. All juniors must have their parents or guardian sign their release as well.  If parents are not accompanying their junior to the event, you can download a copy of the release from the MBAA website, sign it and send it with the junior.

  • Race is USA Cycling Mountain Bike (NORBA) sanctioned

  • Races will be conducted in accord with USA Cycling Mountain Bike (NORBA) rules with MBAA having final authority.

  • Necessary Equipment: Helmets, Eye protection Handlebar ends that are closed and have no sharp or jagged end.

  • No ear pieces:  i.e., iPods/radios/walkman’s allowed on the course/venue.

  • MBAA has the right to refuse any entry. No entry will be accepted and processed without payment.

  • There are no Drop Boxes

  • No Refunds. All Entry fees are nonrefundable/nontransferable. This applies to any race cancellation due to weather, fire or other unavoidable safety conditions.

  • Any racer wishing to compete in the AZ State Championship Point Series and accumulate points must be a MBAA member as of the day of the race. 

  • REI will provide neutral bike support

  • Ralphs will be present for your culinary needs

  • You can take care of your MBAA membership needs, team needs, get a copy of the race rules, or get all your questions answered at the MBAA booth at the race.

  • You can purchase your 2008 USA Cycling Mountain Bike (NORBA) license at the registration table.

  • Liberty Mutual representrative(s) will be on site to discuss your insurance needs.  For each person who requests an insurance quote/ Liberty Mutual will donate $5.00 to MBAA.
