COURSE:** PRE RIDING INFO/MARKING: BE AWARE THAT THE COURSES ARE NOT CLOSED TO OTHER TRAIL USERS.
Three different courses will be utilized on April 14. Check out the one that applies to you.
THE JUNIOR COURSE (for male 12 and under and female 14 and under) the course will be on the north side (left side) of Houston Mesa Road near the corral area. It will be marked when possible. It will be the same as the 2006 course utilized

THE SHOOFLY/HOUSTON MESA LOOP COURSE USED IN 2006 - run in a counterclock wise direction.

USED by the following classes/categories:
THE SPORT, SINGLE SPEED NOVICE, COLLEGIATE, BEGINNERS, MASTERs, ROCK CRUSHER, FIRST TIMER/REC AND JUNIOR MEN 13 AND UP AND JUNIOR FEMALE 15 AND UP (about 10 mile loop) – Race will be run men first followed by women
There is a clearing on the start/finish side. Once you are there go east about 100 yards or so and you will find a piece of vertical PVC pipe with orange and green ribbon that will say "start here" (unless weather or vandals remove it). Face south /southeast and you will see another stake with orange and green ribbon, go to it and you will see the next one,. Follow those until you get to the trail that takes you off the mesa (it's pretty rocky) then follow the trail. Course will be pre marked with orange and green ribbon. At turns, if turn is left, ribbon will be on left, ribbon on right if right turn, then more ribbon on the correct way. There will be no comfort markings! Course is 10 miles long. It will be marked one week before the race, maybe sooner.
The course will consist of the Shoofly Loop and the Houston Loop with a connector trail – will be run in a counter clockwise direction. The start will be in an open field on the east side of Houston Mesa Road; will run in a south/southeastly direction until it comes to the Shoofly Loop. There are no numbers marking the course. There are brown trail signs permanently in place for the Shoofly and Houston Loops. The course will be premarked as soon as possible with green and orange tape (together). Will be marked with the tape ONLY AT TURNS– no comfort markings.
Note: The connector to the Shoofly and Houston Loops is just one trail so please be careful when preriding as you may meet someone coming toward you. Will not be a problem for the race because of the timing.
Long loop – will consist of start area, Shoofly loop to connector to Houston Loop to connector to Shoofly loop back to start/finish area. (@10 miles)
Shoofly loop – will consist of start area and Shoofly Loop only
Houston Loop - will consist of Houston Loop only
MARATHON LOOP - @22 miles – run in a clock wise direction

To be used by the following riders:
MARATHON, PRO, SEMI-PRO, AND EXPERT and SINGLE SPEED ADVANCED
Pre marking will be the orange and green ribbons. You will start on Houston Mesa Road itself,-- paved road -- following it about 2 miles then go off onto Forest Road 198 (right turn). Continue on until intersection with 4 wheel trail 1256 bearing to the right again. There will be a feed zone at mile point 10.75 and then you will make a hard right on to single track. Follow this until you reach mile 17 and then bear to the right which will take you into the Houston Mesa Loop which is being used by the other riders back to the venue area and the finish.
