Recreational Ride Program

MBAA is starting a new recreational ride program. Individual members can lead a ride that other members and their friends may attend. We envision having many types of rides to choose from – short/long, fast/slow, small groups or big groups, weekend epics or a quick spin after work, close to home or on the other side of the state. The type of ride is all up to the ride leader, and any MBAA member can be a ride leader. It’s a great way to meet other cyclists and share your love of mountain biking. Rides will be posted on the MBAA calendar and there is no charge.

Here’s how it works:

MBAA rides are led by individual MBAA members for other members and their friends. Ride location, details and rider limit will be determined by the ride leader and will be posted on the web site.

If you want to go on a ride, simply contact the ride leader to let them know. You should ask the ride leader exactly what type of ride he or she is planning in terms of distance, pace and technical difficulty. Also, challenging your skills can be rewarding but be realistic and don’t join a ride that is well beyond your skill or fitness level. That way the rides will stay manageable and be enjoyable for everyone.

This is meant to be fun and casual but if you commit to a ride, try to go or at least let the ride leader know if you’re not coming or may be late. Whether the group waits is up to the discretion of the ride leader.

Rides may change location or time at the last moment, so communicating with the ride leader is important. That way you can be sure the ride is on. Contact the ride leader if the weather looks questionable.

***Helmets are required on all rides.***

The following ride categories are only general guidelines:

  • Beginner: Easy terrain, easy pace, frequent stops.

  • Intermediate: Moderately technical, somewhat faster pace, occasional stops and bailout points. For people who ride frequently and have some skills.

  • Advanced: High technical difficulty, fast pace, few stops or chances to bail out. Intended for advanced riders who would like to go for a challenging ride.

  • Special Category: Singlespeed ride, women’s ride, tandem ride, families with small children, poker run, night ride, dawn ride, mountain unicycle ride – you get the picture.
